POSITION SUMMARY
The Bilingual Certified Medical Assistant (BCMA) is a position will assist providers before, during, and after patient appointments. They will be expected to speak both English and Spanish fluently to provide support for our patients and providers for patient visits and care coordination to provide an exceptional experience for our patients.

PRODUCTIVITY AND EXPECTATIONS:
The BCMA position is an essential component to the success of HPCHC. This position is expected to prioritize time and responsibilities in the following manner:

70%: Direct Patient Care
• Communicate in a culturally appropriate manner with our Spanish speaking patients for:
- Greeting
- Rooming
- Chief Complaint
- Provider Questions
- Physical review of systems
- Translation of procedure steps as the provider speaks them in English
- Plan of care instructions
- Ancillary testing
- Follow up care to include phone calls
• Translate for provider and team
• Room patients in a warm and friendly manner, obtain and record vital signs.
• Document a detailed Chief Complaint for the purpose of the patient’s visit.
• Review medications, allergies, and past medical history (PMH).
• Put in actions for every patient based on provider recommendations.
• Perform medical procedures as directed by the licensed provider.
• Update patient records and do all alerts as quickly as possible.
• Identify, draw up, administer, and record appropriate immunizations and injectables.
• Perform CLIA waived lab testing.
• Perform and process blood draws.
• Perform EKG testing.
• Assist patients with all forms needed for the appointment.
• Perform standing orders.
• Accurately complete all required documentation in the electronic medical record.

20%: Care Coordination
• Participate in daily ‘Huddle’ with provider and team.
• Respond to phone messages before each work session ends.
• Follow up with incoming testing results/referrals/diagnostic orders.
• Identify care gaps and contact patient.
• Connect patients with available and appropriate HPCHC resources.
• Provide expanded care coordination for our Spanish speaking patients.

10%: General Duties
• Maintain and stock exam rooms.
• Clean and sterilize instruments following protocol.
• Maintain and record vaccine refrigerator and freezer temperature logs.
• Dispose of biohazardous waste following protocol.
• Assist with training of new employees on an as needed basis per Supervisor.
• Participates in Patient Centered Medical Home, Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement and Risk Management tasks per plans developed by HPCHC.
• Performs quality control checks, follows infection control and Bloodborne pathogen standards and reporting requirements.
• Completes online education modules as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Current Certified Medical Assistant certification required.
• Spanish language skill required.
• Ability to pass the Spanish Speaking Proficiency Test at HPCHC is required.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) or within 90 days of hire is required.
• Prior medical field experience required.
• Prior customer service skills necessary to provide a positive experience necessary when they speak to patients and employees in person and on the phone is preferred.
• Experience working with a diverse population and/or underserved populations preferred.
• The position requires a working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. This includes but is not limited to:
- Proficiency in using the Internet, Microsoft Office programs and general computer skills.
- Skill in operating office equipment such as copier, fax machine, scanners, etc.

• Exercises professional judgment, courtesy, and professionalism in daily interactions with others.
• Works both independently and as part of a team; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health care team members and diverse patient populations.
• Displays time management and organizational skills to consistently meet deadlines.
• Performs other duties as required.

This position utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques, and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patients and/or injury to self. This is an OSHA Category 1 position
